Judo Scholarships

Judoka are nominated for a scholarship by JudoScotland High Performance Coach, Euan Burton.

To be considered for selection, judoka must:

  • Meet the general selection criteria outlined by Winning Students, and;
  • Hold a full JudoScotland licence, and;
  • Be a member of either the BJA/UKSport World Class Performance Programme (WCPP), the SportScotland Institute of Sport supported programme (SIS) or the JudoScotland National Jnr/Snr Squad, and;
  • Be undertaking an agreed performance programme delivered via JudoScotland’s National Training Centre

The number of places is determined by the size of the award available to the sport and, should the applications outweigh the scholarships available, places will be awarded based on the following performance matrix:

  • Current IJF World Ranking (SNR) Top 30;
  • Current JNR/SNR Championship (Euro/World Olympic/Paralympic) Top 7
  • SNR IJF World Tour medallist (within past 18 months)
  • JNR European Cup medallist (within past 18 months)
  • EYOF / European Cadet medallist (within past 18 months)
  • GB JNR Team / GB SNR Team medallist (within past 18 months);
  • SNR Euro Cup medallist (within past 18 months);
  • Highest placed athlete(s) on current Great Britain  JNR or SNR Rank lis

In addition the following will be considered:

  • Demonstration of engagement / commitment to JudoScotland Performance Programme
  • Potential to support JudoScotland Performance objectives in Tokyo 2020 Olympic & Paralympic cycle and/or 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Application Timeline

    On Your Marks!

    Individual Scholarship applications are open in February and close in April each year. Please note applications for the 2019-20 academic year are delayed due to a new funding bid process. It is anticipated that applications will be open by end of spring 2019.

    All nominated athletes complete and return their paperwork by end of September.

    Core sport and Individual Scholarship athletes are announced each October.

    Support runs from October until the following June.
